Hi, I am Jonas.

Lover of renaissance music, as well music from the 70s, 80s and 90s [of the 20th century]. I guess all of this had to come together at one point.

Well here we are. Josquin… Jonasquin… I think, you get it.

In my real life, I am a music theory and ear training lecturer at two universities in Germany. I’ve also dabbled in YouTube before, with some mixed output, covering a couple of virtual choir arrangements, thoroughbass and/or „face expression“ analyses and so on: https://www.youtube.com/@jonaswolfmusic1775

I was born in 1993 and grew up in the South West of Germany. Until the age of 14, I wasn’t really into music, but through serendipity, particularly my school music teacher and the support of my parents, passion flared and I developed the urge to make music the central part of my life.

At Karlsruhe University of Music, I found a good place to make this plan come true: I enrolled into music pedagogy („Schulmusik“) with main subject recorder (with Karel van Steenhoven) and orchestral conducting (with Virginie Auvray and Stefan Ottersbach). Within the broad study program, the music theory related classes soon turned out to be my absolute favourites, especially since they were handled very practically (e.g. no dry 4 part writing exercises in harmony class but rather solving things directly at the piano, and also tasks to make period compositions). This lead me to enroll into the music theory bachelor program, which I was lucky to be guided through by my main subject teachers Edith Metzner, Ralph Bernardy and Michael Moriz.

When my main subject teacher Ralph Bernardy was appointed to a professorship at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and I only had done renaissance music for one semester, I made the decision to apply for a music theory master program in Basel (also the discovery of the YouTube channel earlymusicsources was pretty inspiring). I studied there from 2020 to 2022 with Johannes Menke and Florian Vogt, and it was during this time that I gained a lot of experience both in writing period compositions and producing videos with choral arrangements. It would take a couple of years however until I finally decided to combine these two genres and turn it into a serious business.

It was also during my master program that I was given the opportunity to teach my first university classes: first in Karlsruhe, then in Trossingen. After graduating in Basel, I held my first lecturer position at Conservatorium Maastricht (the Netherlands). In 2023, I was appointed a lecturer position for music theory and ear training at the Musikgymnasium in Karlsruhe. This position as well as the lecturer on secondment position at the University of Music in Trossingen are my current jobs.

From time to time (and sometimes to prank the students of my early music classes in Trossingen), I wrote little pastiche compositions over hits by Billy Joel, Alan Menken, Sting, The BeeGees and Elton John. It was in 2025 that I finally decided to double down on this activity and give it its own brand.
